On Tuesday we woke up and had a good breakfast of sausage, biscuits, and gravy. Alyson must not have wanted to have that for breakfast because every time I tried to give her a bite of them, she would slap herself in the face. Hahaha!!
We planned to spend the day in Galveston, but we had to drive to Texas City to the nearest Discount Tire to get a tire repaired that a screw had punctured. After getting that taken care of, we headed back to Galveston to see the sights. First, my Mom drove us by an old Children’s Asylum. It was kind of creepy. And the historical sign had been spray painted over so it made it even more creepy.
Next we decided to do a Geocache while Alyson was napping. My Mom and I had a fun time with this one!! Here is the location:
And it ended up being hidden in an easter egg shaped like a walnut hidden in a palm tree:
Alyson woke up after we got back in the car so we made a trip to Murdoch’s. No trip to Galveston is complete without stopping in at Murdoch’s.
Here is Pleasure Pier from the back deck at Murdoch’s:
And here is Alyson peeking through the slats looking at the ocean. She’s just so cute sometimes!!
Mine, mine, mine, mine....this made me think of Finding Nemo
We took a ride on the ferry next. Alyson’s favorite part was watching the seagulls fly above us. :)
We went to The Strand to have dinner at an Italian place my Mom has always wanted to try. As soon as we walked in I had a bad feeling. It was really fancy and we were in shorts from the day. We figured they probably had a lot of people coming in from the street though so we went ahead. The hostess asked my Mom if we had reservations. When my Mom said no, she frowned. (Now would be a good time to tell you that there were only people at ONE table in the entire restaurant.) She stood there looking at their podium for a while and said she guessed she could squeeze us in. ???? We sat down and started looking at the menu, and the cheapest thing on the menu was lasagna for $18.50. We ended up telling the waiter there was nothing on the menu Alyson could eat so we were going to have to go somewhere else. Yikes!!!
We ended up walking down the street and coming across a little cafe called Yaga’s. I ordered a roasted garlic with chicken pizza that was amazing!!
After dinner we went to see The Galveston Beach Band play in a little park, actually where we geocached earlier in the day. It was so much fun!! The band has been playing Tuesday nights through the summer yearly since the 1920’s. It was really cool to sit with the locals (was definitely not a tourist attraction) and see all the hometown tradition. They played a lot of patriotic music since it was just a couple days until the 4th of July.
Alyson ended up falling asleep while my Mom pushed her around in her stroller. She was exhausted after a long day of fun!!
